U.S. Plans to Dispatch New Weapons to Ukraine

(MENAFN) The United States is set to increase its arms deliveries to Ukraine, President Donald Trump announced Monday.

Speaking at the White House alongside Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, Trump emphasized, "We're going to send some more weapons. We have to. They have to be able to defend themselves."

Highlighting the intense challenges Ukraine faces, Trump said the country is enduring heavy attacks. "We're going to have to send more weapons, defensive weapons primarily, but they're getting hit very, very hard. So many people are dying in that mess," he added.

The Pentagon has also officially confirmed plans to dispatch additional arms to Ukraine.

"At President Trump's direction, the Department of Defense is sending additional defensive weapons to Ukraine to ensure the Ukrainians can defend themselves while we work to secure a lasting peace and ensure the killing stops," Pentagon spokesperson Sean Parnell stated.

This decision comes after reports surfaced last week indicating the Pentagon temporarily halted shipments of air defense missiles and precision munitions due to concerns over dwindling US stockpiles.

Despite these challenges, the Department of Defense reassured that it continues to present Trump with "robust options regarding military aid to Ukraine, consistent with his goal of bringing this tragic war to an end."

Ukraine has warned that any delays or cutbacks in defense assistance "would only encourage" Russia to extend its military campaign.

This announcement follows recent dialogues Trump held with Russian President Vladimir Putin and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy. After his talk with Putin, Trump described the outcome as disappointing, remarking there was “no progress” toward a ceasefire.

When questioned last Friday about the potential sale of more Patriot missiles to Ukraine, Trump responded, "we might. We're looking at it."
