Zelensky confirms draft documents prepared after Ukraine-US talks

(MENAFN) Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy on Tuesday announced that several draft documents have been prepared following talks between Kyiv and Washington over the past weekend.

In a statement posted on a social media platform, Zelenskyy said he met with Ukraine’s chief negotiator Rustem Umerov and Chief of the General Staff Andrii Hnatov, who delivered a report on their productive discussions with the US side.

“They worked productively with envoys of President (Donald) Trump, and several draft documents have now been prepared,” Zelenskyy said. “In particular, these include documents on security guarantees for Ukraine, on recovery, and on a basic framework for ending this war.”

He stressed that the drafts are designed to align with the overarching goal of concluding the nearly four-year conflict with Russia and preventing any future hostilities. “Each round of negotiations and meetings contributes to safeguarding Ukraine's interests, and we will continue this work in the same constructive manner,” he added, also expressing gratitude to European partners for their support and coordination.

Zelenskyy emphasized that Kyiv aims to continue dialogue with Washington while ensuring that diplomacy is coupled with pressure on Russia and support for Ukraine. He noted that the core elements of the documents are ready, while some proposals remain unacceptable to either side.

“The Americans are currently continuing negotiations with Russian representatives. They will hold talks, and then we will receive feedback from them. From our side, they have received all the information,” he said.

Earlier, US Special Envoy Steve Witkoff described the Ukrainian delegation’s three-day series of meetings in Florida as “productive and constructive,” involving both American and European negotiators. Discussions focused on four key documents, including updates to a 20-point plan, multilateral and US security guarantees for Ukraine, and an economic recovery framework.

Witkoff also reported separate meetings between US delegates and Russian presidential envoy Kirill Dmitriev over the weekend to advance President Trump’s peace plan on Ukraine. These sessions are part of ongoing negotiations that began in November, aiming to establish a comprehensive peace framework based on the US draft proposal, which has been refined over recent months.
