Ukraine Aims for EU Membership by 2027—Zelenskyy
During a phone call with UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer, Zelenskyy emphasized that Ukraine is prepared to work "24/7 to achieve a dignified peace" and confirmed that diplomatic discussions will continue later this week.
"Ukraine wants to end this war as quickly as possible," Zelenskyy said after speaking with Starmer, adding that Russia must demonstrate a willingness to halt the violence rather than attacking energy infrastructure. He expressed gratitude for the UK's "concrete energy aid packages" and expressed hope that talks on strengthening air defense would be fruitful.
Regarding his discussion with Austrian Chancellor Christian Stocker, Zelenskyy wrote on social media, "Ukraine’s accession to the European Union is one of the key security guarantees not only for us, but also for all of Europe. That is why we are speaking about a concrete date – 2027 – and we count on partners’ support for our position."
The Ukrainian president also briefed Stocker and Norwegian Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Store on the recent "trilateral format" meetings involving Ukrainian, American, and Russian delegations in the UAE. Zelenskyy highlighted that, although the talks primarily focused on military issues, security guarantees were also addressed, describing the discussions as "constructive and substantive."
