Ukraine, Russia Agree to Continue Talks

(MENAFN) US special envoy Steve Witkoff announced on Tuesday that Ukraine and Russia have consented to move forward with further negotiations after completing a third round of trilateral meetings in Geneva.

"Today, at President (Donald) Trump’s direction, the United States moderated a third set of trilateral discussions with Ukraine and Russia," he stated on the platform of the US social media company X.

Witkoff also expressed appreciation to Switzerland for serving as the host nation for the discussions.

"Both parties agreed to update their respective leaders and continue working towards a deal," he added.

His comments followed the conclusion of the opening day of US-facilitated peace negotiations between Russian and Ukrainian representatives, which wrapped up without producing any major breakthroughs.

The United States delegation included Witkoff along with Trump's son-in-law Jared Kushner, who joined the talks after helping conduct indirect conversations with Iranian officials at a separate venue in the Swiss city earlier that same Tuesday.
