Ukrainian Missile Strike on Bryansk Leaves Seven Dead

(MENAFN) The Russian city of Bryansk has suffered seven fatalities following a missile attack by Ukraine, local Governor Alexander Bogomaz reported.

In an interview with Russian media, Bogomaz said the strike occurred around 6 pm (1500 GMT), a time when many residents were returning home from work. "As of today, we have seven dead and 42 wounded," he said. "They struck at the civilian population, it was almost six in the evening when people were returning home from work, and there were many residents of the city of Bryansk on the streets. They struck at that time."

The Russian Foreign Ministry stated that British-made weaponry was reportedly used in the attack. It emphasized that the strike occurred amid intensified diplomatic efforts within the Russia-US-Ukraine trilateral talks aimed at resolving the Ukrainian crisis.

The ministry accused London and other Western capitals of attempting to derail the peace process through “a large-scale provocation involving civilian casualties.” It said, "The tactic is not new and is used by the sponsors of the Kyiv regime every time a real prospect for a settlement appears."

According to the ministry, the timing of the attack is significant, coinciding with signals from Washington indicating that negotiations on a Ukrainian settlement may have "reached a turning point" and that peace could be achievable.

The ministry called on international organizations, particularly the UN, to provide an appropriate assessment of the incident, warning, "Silence will be perceived as nothing other than condoning the criminal activities of Zelenskyy and his puppeteers, who are striving to escalate the conflict."
