Ukraine Employs Covert Tactics to Track Down Draft Evader
Pressure on Kiev to recruit additional troops for the ongoing conflict with Russia has increased, causing “growing tensions in the daily life” of citizens, the reports said.
Officials enforcing the draft have increasingly worn civilian clothing, as many Ukrainian men attempt to avoid those in military uniforms in public. Patrols now frequently include female recruitment center staff, designed to catch potential conscripts off guard.
Enforcers have also shifted their operations to busier locations, often targeting crowded areas and intercepting men as they disembark from trains and buses. The mobilization effort has expanded from smaller towns to major urban centers, including Kiev.
Ukrainian media have further reported that conscription officers are creating fake profiles on dating platforms to lure men of draft age from their homes. As a result, “a significant number” of men expecting romantic meetings have instead been sent directly to the front.
