Zelensky Says Ukraine Finished Repairing Druzhba Oil Pipeline
"Ukraine has finished repairing a section of the Druzhba oil pipeline that was damaged by a Russian strike. The pipeline can resume its operation," Zelensky said on Telegram.
The Druzhba pipeline — a vital conduit carrying Russian crude oil westward through Ukraine to Hungary and Slovakia — has remained offline since late January, when an attack disrupted oil flows. Ukrainian officials attributed the damage directly to Russia, though the incident quickly spiraled into a broader diplomatic standoff.
Slovakia declared a national oil emergency in the wake of the disruption and accused Kyiv of deliberately blocking crude deliveries — a charge that deepened tensions between the two neighboring states. Hungary, meanwhile, took sweeping retaliatory steps: suspending exports of refined fuels including diesel and gasoline to Ukraine, and wielding its veto to block a proposed €90 billion ($105 billion) EU financial aid package for Kyiv, citing the halt in crude oil deliveries as justification.
With the pipeline now back in operational condition, Zelensky expressed cautious optimism that the European Union would move swiftly to release the frozen support funds — a lifeline that Ukraine has long sought as it continues to contend with the economic and military toll of the war.
