Greece Warns Ukrainian Naval Drone Could Have Triggered Major Maritime Disaster
The unmanned surface vessel was identified as a Magura V3-type explosive naval drone, reportedly capable of carrying a payload of up to 300 kilograms. Greek officials, including the prime minister and senior members of government, were briefed on the incident last week, according to international reporting.
Speaking at a conference, Greece’s defense minister declined to disclose full investigative details but emphasized the severity of the situation, stating that the device represented a significant danger. He said there was “not the slightest doubt – I repeat, the slightest doubt – that this is a Ukrainian sea drone,” adding that if a civilian cruise ship had encountered it, the vessel would likely have ended up at “the bottom of the sea.”
The minister further argued that the situation could have led to catastrophic consequences had the drone crossed paths with passenger shipping routes.
He also stated that Ukraine should issue “a very big apology” and provide “the absolute assurance that something like this will not happen again in the wider region,” according to reports.
