Ukraine Rejects Allegations of Biological Weapons Development
In a statement published on the US social media platform X, the ministry said that Ukraine’s cooperation with the United States in the area of biosafety is strictly focused on public health-related goals, including epidemiological monitoring, laboratory diagnostics, biosecurity, and broader disease prevention efforts, and has no connection to military activity.
The ministry also emphasized that laboratories operating under international assistance programs are civilian in nature and function within public health, veterinary, and scientific frameworks.
Officials rejected claims regarding alleged biological weapons facilities, describing them as part of a longstanding narrative promoted by Russia and saying such allegations have been repeatedly discredited by international assessments.
The statement added that Ukraine remains committed to transparency and international cooperation in biosafety initiatives and fully adheres to its obligations under the Biological and Toxin Weapons Convention.
The remarks followed reports in May in which Russia’s Investigative Committee alleged that the United States funds biological weapons-related activities in Ukraine, according to broadcaster.
