UNESCO helps Ukrainian libraries support learning, well-being and community resilience
Participating libraries have integrated their new knowledge into their daily work and introduced activities adapted to the needs of their communities.
These include guided reading and storytelling, creative workshops, music and art activities, role-playing games, conversation groups and meetings with psychologists. Some libraries have established support groups for families of military personnel, while others organize activities for older people, young readers and library staff.
In Artsyz, in Ukraine’s southern Odesa region, the local library organizes a “Circle of Support” for older members of the community. Participants meet regularly to read together, exchange reflections and take part in psychosocial activities.
One day, Tetiana, a regular participant, arrived dressed entirely in black —a traditional sign of mourning in Ukraine. She told the group that her husband had passed away earlier that day. At a moment of profound loss, she chose to come to the library, knowing that she would find people there ready to listen and support her.
